Pastor Maqwati

Apostle Buhle Maqwati is the founder and senior pastor of Believers’ Centre based in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, which is a non denominational and multi ethnic church that serves hundreds of its members and a host of satellite churches across the country.
He is recognized as a dynamic “preaching machine” who delivers the uncompromising word of God with compassion.  As a much sought-after speaker, Apostle Maqwati has been a guest speaker in various conferences, conventions, crusades and meetings. His simple, yet profound presentation of God’s word coupled with his charismatic flair appeals to a diverse group of people from all spheres of life. His teaching and preaching is for life change rather than entertainment.
Remarkable moves of the Holy Spirit have been experienced and recorded in most places where he ministered with the evidence of numerous miracles, healings, salvation, deliverances etc.  On one occasion in a crusade in Port Shepstone (KZN), a man three days in a comma was brought to him from a distant area and the Apostle prayed for him in Jesus name and commanded him to stand on his feet and a miracle happened. The man jumped up and recovered instantly and he is alive to this day. The Lord confirms the word of his grace by allowing Apostle to perform miracles, wonders and signs and many lives have been changed.

He has served as a fulltime minister since 2003. He was born and raised at Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape province, the rural area in former Transkei home land where the international icon, Dr Nelson Mandela was born and raised. He completed his primary and high school education there and moved to Cape Town where he completed his studies in Civil Engineering at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  He worked in Cape Town for Martin and East Contractors as a technician before he worked overseas.  The Lord called him to full time ministry while he had worked few years in Schenectady and Albany in New York USA. As Peter was snatched from his fishing career to be a fisher of man, so Apostle Maqwati was snatched out of his career in Civil Engineering to preach the Gospel.
Apostle Maqwati received salvation when he was fourteen (14) years of age at a prayer meeting held in a rondervel (thatched hut) at a home of one African Gospel Church (AGC) member. Since then he became a member of African Gospel Church (A Pentecostal Church in South Africa that was pioneered by the one of Gospel giants, Rev Job Chiliza{ukhehle}),  until 2008 January when he was peacefully  released at Orlando Circuit (branch) to start his ministry. It was in AGC where he was spiritually raised under strict and conservative principles. He served and submitted under ten (10) pastors in his life as a member of AGC, where he learnt most about ministry and godly character.

In 2005, he married  Thembi Ruth Mavuso, who was also a member of the same church (AGC). As a first lady at Believers’ Centre, Pastor Thembi  Maqwati now ministers alongside her husband and they have been blessed with three children, twins Ndumiso(son) and Nondumiso(daughter) and Anita (daughter), and they currently live in Honeydew Suburb in Johannesburg.

Pastor Thembi R. Maqwati is a renowned teacher of God‘s word and a conference speaker who demonstrates deep love for God and the people.  As a wife of Apostle B. Maqwati, she serves with her husband as a co-founder and co-pastor of Believers’ Centre in Johannesburg.  Churches, organizations, Christian organizations at universities, colleges and different ministries invite and use her as a vessel of God to minister the Gospel of hope and message of faith.
As a minister of the Gospel, Pastor Thembi, is both an inspiration and an influence in ministry, business and life in general to many women. She is the founder of “Kingdom Daughters Ministry” an interdenominational ministry that hosts events like retreats, conferences, workshops and other events that empower women from all walks of life to develop in God’s love and excel in other areas.  She heads the women’s ministry at Believers’ Centre and co-ordinates the ministry of intercession.

Having received salvation at 12 years of age, and lived in salvation as a teenager and young single lady, Pastor Thembi has a deep compassion and love for young people as she works with and develops them to be who God wants them to be. Her goal is for all people to know, accept and operate in the love of God.
After completing her B.Com degree in Marketing from the University of Pretoria, she has worked with various companies like Foschini group, Vukani Consultants, Mafuri Projects Managers etc. She currently works for one of the biggest engineering companies in Southern African region called Bigen Africa as a project manager heading and co-coordinating different projects.
Above all her accomplishment in life, Pastor Thembi considers working alongside her husband in God’s work and raising Godly children with a peaceful and functional family, her primary purpose and calling. As a mother of three children, she strongly believes the successful and effective way to raise godly children is to be an active role model by demonstrating the love and character of Christ both at home and outside.
